PrideFest Parade, 2013

March 27, 2013

The annual PrideFest of the Palm Beaches, organized by Compass GLCC, took place in downtown Lake Worth over the weekend of March 23-24, with the parade being held at noon on Sunday. This is the third year I have attended. Unlike some parade-crazed communities in other parts of the US, there do not seem to be many in Palm Beach County. This one is held at the right time of year to receive plenty of support from the local communities, both as sponsors and as spectators. The parade has everything a parade should have…marching bands, floats, costumes, as well as drag queens, and pets.

Our central Palm Beach County communities each have their own personality. Delray Beach is upscale leisure, West Palm Beach is emerging cosmopolitan, and Lake Worth is alternative funk, a place where old hippies can feel at home and new ideas are born. Anything goes in Lake Worth making it the right place for PrideFest.

Each year seems to be better than the last. This year had better costumes in my opinion. The event is always well attended by a diverse crowd of spectators from kids to retirees. There are always photo opps, but I also like to go because it is a parade!

From the Compass GLCC…
“Pridefest of Lake Worth and The Palm Beaches attracts more than 12,000 attendees to Lake Worth, Florida, annually. The festival exemplifies the strength and growth of the gay & lesbian community and brings together local residents and families, community leaders, and area business owners to celebrate diversity. The event features a parade, live performances and entertainment for all ages.”

Here are some photographs from 2013, plus one of my favorites from all of 2012…
